What a foam-covered floor, a drain full of fish scraps, and one very picky client taught us about food-grade cleaning
Look closely at the photo above. Foam covers a stainless-steel processing floor. Scraps of fish sit on an anti-fatigue mat and in the drain. A trace of salmon clings to the base of a table leg.
To most people it looks like a mess. To a seafood manufacturer, it’s the moment of truth.
This is what the middle of a Sipena clean looks like at one of our client’s facilities. It’s also the reason that client stopped shopping around.
The Client Who Had Seen It All
Seafood processing is one of the hardest environments to clean. Fish residue is protein-rich, oily, and quick to spoil. Cold, wet floors hide bacteria. Drains, mat grids, table legs, and wall panels all collect the debris that audits, inspectors, and customers care about.
Our client knew this better than anyone, and they had tried several cleaning services before us. Some cleaned what was easy to see and missed what wasn’t. Others couldn’t keep the same standard from one shift to the next. Eventually the client stopped asking who was cheapest and started asking who they could trust.
That’s where we came in.
What Our Cleaner Saw (and Fixed)
Our cleaner took this photo during the clean, not after it. It shows exactly where the real work happens:
The mat. The honeycomb grid of a drainage mat traps fish fragments. We lift, scrub, and rinse these properly so nothing is left behind.
The drain. A blocked or half-cleaned drain is where odor, bacteria, and pests begin. We clear every grate, not just the visible surface.
The legs and frames. Residue collects at the base of equipment and in the joints of stainless-steel frames. These are the spots rushed cleaners skip.
The floor. Foam gives detergent the contact time it needs to break down fats and proteins. We don’t just wipe the surface. We let the chemistry work, then rinse thoroughly.
Why Clients Stay With Sipena
Anyone can promise a clean facility. Here’s what we do to deliver it:
We clean what you can’t see. Hidden corners, drains, and equipment bases get the same attention as the open floor.
We’re consistent. The standard on a Monday night is the standard on a Friday night.
We understand food environments. We know why seafood facilities need a different approach, from the right products to the right sequence of cleaning steps.
We document our work. Our team photographs the process, as in the image above, so you can see what we did.
We treat your site like our own. Your reputation is on the line every time a product leaves the building, and we work like it.
The Result
Our client no longer has to wonder whether the clean was done properly. They hand us the keys, we deliver, and they get to focus on what they do best: producing quality seafood. When a client who has tried multiple cleaning services settles on one, it says something. We don’t take that trust lightly, and we earn it again every shift.
